How it works

BeachGuard leans on Apple's own security rather than pretending to replace it.
Set a Trusted Code
A four-digit code that belongs to BeachGuard alone — never your iPhone passcode. It lives in the device-only Keychain.
Turn on Guided Access
Apple's own restriction pins iPhone to BeachGuard. Triple-click the side button and the screen can't be left without you.
Set it down
A short countdown lets the phone settle, then the screen dims and motion monitoring begins.
Motion wakes it
A real pickup — lift and rotation, not a passing bump — wakes the screen and demands proof it's you.
What it does
Deliberate about what counts as a threat.
Motion that means something
A table knock or a passing truck won't trigger it. BeachGuard looks for lift combined with rotation — the signature of a hand, not a vibration. Three sensitivity levels let you tune it to the setting.
Face ID decides
Outside Guided Access, a pickup asks iOS for Face ID. Match, and Guard Mode simply ends — no noise, no fuss. iOS owns that prompt entirely; BeachGuard only ever receives the result.
Your Trusted Code
Hand your phone to a friend while you swim. They can stand the alarm down with the four-digit code — without ever touching your passcode, your photos, or anything else.
An alarm people notice
Sound, a flashing screen, and haptics together. You set the gain in advance and test it safely before you rely on it — and BeachGuard warns you if the phone is muted or routed to headphones.
Guided Access, done right
BeachGuard can't lock iPhone — no app can. So it walks you through Apple's Guided Access instead, which genuinely restricts the device to one app until you release it.
Nothing to collect
No account, no server, no analytics SDK, no advertising. Motion samples live in memory for the length of a session and are gone when it ends. There is nothing to breach.
Privacy
The honest version is also the short one.
BeachGuard has no backend. There is no "we may share your data with partners" clause because there is no data and there are no partners.
BeachGuard never asks for your camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos, Bluetooth, or calendar. It asks for motion — used only while a session is actually running — and optionally notifications, so it can tell you if a session ended because the app stopped being available.
Your Trusted Code is stored in the device-only Keychain under the strongest passcode-protected class iOS offers. It never leaves the phone, and BeachGuard never sees your Face ID data or your iPhone passcode.
Limits
What BeachGuard is not.
An alarm that overpromises is worse than no alarm, because you'd trust it. So here is the plain list.
- It cannot lock your iPhone. No third-party app can. Guided Access is Apple's mechanism, and you turn it on yourself.
- It cannot track or recover a stolen phone. That is Find My. Keep it switched on.
- It only works while it is open. iOS does not grant continuous motion monitoring in the background, so the screen stays on BeachGuard.
- It cannot stop a determined thief. It makes theft loud and public. That is deterrence, not prevention.
- It is not an emergency service. Never rely on it for personal safety or medical alerting.
- It cannot override iOS. System volume, audio routing, and authentication prompts belong to Apple throughout.
Emergency calls and Crash Detection are unavailable while Guided Access is active. This is iOS behaviour, not a BeachGuard choice. End Guided Access before you need them.
